Contentment

Editor's Heart for September 2021

Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

~ 1 Timothy 6: 6-8 (NKJV)

Contentment can be so difficult... Everything around us is designed to keep us wanting more. Everything can be upgraded... newer vehicles with more bells and whistles, more bling, more glitz, more tech, more comfort, more luxury... a never-ending cycle of discontent. The Israelites suffered from discontent and stayed wandering and stuck in the desert 40 years because of it. They were hungry, God provided manna. They complained about the manna and God sent quail, but when they ate the quail they choked on it.

The following verses talk about how desiring wealth becomes a snare because the love of money is the root of all evil. The constant craving for possessions... bigger, better, newer, more... more... more... this robs us of our peace, our joy, our satisfaction with the life God has given us. The Scripture is very clear that having godliness and being content are a greater gain than any material possession. Let us learn to say, like Job, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
Lord, cause me to be grateful and content!

Servant's Heart Outreach

Breathe L.I.F.E. is continuing to show appreciation to first responders by bringing sweet treats to invite our police, firefighters, and EMTs to "taste and see that the Lord is good". We are visiting a different station every other week at least until the end of the year. In August, we went to Station 15 and Station 17. September we are targeting Denham Springs/Livingston Parish and Walker. In October and November, we will visit Central and Prairieville stations, if the Lord says the same.

In September, we are also going to assemble a "We Care" basket for ER workers at Our Lady of the Lake. The basket will be filled with self-care products like lotions, shampoos, and other personal care items to express our appreciation for healthcare professionals who have given so much during the coronavirus pandemic.
